Library
Martin Custom Construction was commissioned by the owners of this property to design and build a one-of-a kind paneled library in their home. The owners requested that no plywood or veneers be used. They chose for the entire project to be constructed of solid butternut and requested large panel sizes to incorporate some of their existing artwork. MCC took a furniture design approach to this unique challenge and engineered mouldings and joinery that would allow for seasonal movement throughout the entire room.
The library had been an existing simple seating area for guests. Martin Custom Construction gutted the room and redesigned it to blend seamlessly and elegantly with the rest of the home. Features of the design include raised paneled bookshelf interiors, custom bead board cabinet backs, solid raised wall panels up to 42” wide and 7’ tall, 1-1/4” thick solid countertops and shelving, and a cathedral coffer ceiling with beaded beams that mask existing structural components. There are no exposed fasteners in the entire room and MCC custom designed and milled all mouldings throughout the project. MCC also performed the wood finishing and used a hand applied 6-coat oil finish to accentuate the wood’s character and patina.
